With the month of September now complete, it's time to take a look at how we spent our money.

In terms of total spending, September was a more frugal month than August, which means fixed costs like our rent take up a higher percentage of our total expenses.

I've always wondered about how much people spend on groceries. For two months straight, we've spent around 12% of our budget on groceries.

Is that consistent with what others spend? There's only two of us.

As I mentioned last month, Yodlee doesn't tally automatic savings transfers as an expense, which I do (since it is money going from my primary checking account to my online savings accounts).

This tends to make the percentages a bit higher, since I automatically deposit about 20% of our income into our retirement and housing funds.
